Basic Science Research, Radiation Oncology

Ongoing Main Research Projects (Principal Investigator–Mohan P. Achary, Ph.D.)

  1. Identification of Reliable Prognostic Genetic Markers for Differentiating Metastatic and Non-metastatic Primary Breast Cancers
  2. Combinatorial Inhibition of Growth and Vascular Support of Glioblastoma multiforme Tumors in an Intracerebral Nude Mouse Model
  3. Predictive Assays  to Identify Carcinomas of Cervix by Radiotherapy Alone or in Combination with Chemotherapy
  4. Non-Destructive Detection and Separation of Radiation Damaged Cells in Miniaturized, Inexpensive Device

In addition to the above studies, Dr. Achary collaborates with the following Temple investigators with his expertise in gene expression studies as well as breast tumorigenesis-cum-metastasis nude mouse models:

  1. Title: Treatment of Human Metastatic Breast Cancer with a Monoclonal Antibody which Targets Domain 5 of High Molecular Weight Kininogen in a Nude Mouse Model.  PI: Dr. Robert Colman, Sol Sherry Thrombosis Center, Temple University School of Medicine
  2. a. Title: A Microfluidic Device for Detection and Isolation of Breast Tumor Cells
    b. Title: A Rodent Model to Study Synergistic Effects of Combined Radiation/Traumatic Brain Injury. PI: Dr. M. Kiani, Department of Bioengineering, Temple University
  3. Title: Millimeter Wave and Drug Induced Modulation of Immune System.  PI: Dr. M.K. Logani, Center of Biomedical Physics, Temple University School of Medicine
  4. Title: Neurodegeneration and Neuroprotection in an Alzheimer's Disease Rabbit Model.  PI: Dr. Diana Woodruf-Pak, Department of Psychology, Temple University
